About the Event
Join Ben Pankow from UW Extension for an awesome set of virtual courses on Wilderness Survival Skills! There will be 4 2-hour sessions (8 hours total) with a field day experience later in the Spring! (Date and time to be announced at a later date).
This will be an entry-level course for any student interested in learning survival basics! There is also a 200-level course that offers a more in-depth experience for older students OR if you child has taken the WISE survival courses in the past. (Up to family discretion)
These courses each require materials. We encourage families to utilize their family's allotment to purchase these items. Here is an order form with the required course materials. Please make a copy, fill out the top portion with your family information, and forward to your family's WISE teacher prior to the purchase window deadline. Materials will be shipped directly to families. If you have any of these items, feel free to take them off of the order form!

April 7th - Land Navigation/Outdoor Communication -
Main Topics: What to do when you’re lost. How to use a Compass
April 14th- Shelter/Knots -
Main Topics: Learn how to build a shelter using minimal materials or found in nature. Learn key knots required for field craft/bush craft projects
April 21 - Meal Preparation -
Main Topics: Prepare a meal over an open fire. Plant identification, food safety in the outdoor environment
April 28 - Fire Safety/ Water Purification -
Main Topics: Lite a fire with minimal tools (Magnesium Bar/Ferro Rod, Steel), How to purify water with the fire that was built.
